# Local MCP

> Connect a coding assistant without hosting a server.

Use a desktop client with local stdio MCP support. Elf has no hosted connector URL in this beta.

Settings → Coding assistants provides configuration for the current installation. A generic configuration is:

```json theme={null}
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "elf": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "elf-tokens@beta", "mcp", "--project", "/absolute/path/to/project"]
    }
  }
}
```

Replace the project path. On Windows use an absolute Windows path escaped for JSON and your client’s documented npx-launch method. Beta Windows support remains unverified.

Restart the assistant’s MCP connection after changing configuration. Ask for `figma_onboarding_status`, select the intended file URL, pair Elf Bridge, and complete document authorization before inspecting or editing.

The plugin shows MCP session status. Review concrete changes before asking the assistant to apply them. npm can be used without an IDE; the plugin still needs to stay open in Figma.

For reproducible installations, replace `@beta` with the exact reviewed package version.
