# Divergence and deprecations

> Keep intentional differences explicit.

Record intentional differences through Elf’s supported configuration/review workflow rather than changing baselines to hide drift. Accepted differences apply to the reviewed resource/value pair; new differences remain detectable, and expiry restores reporting.

Mark deprecated tokens/components explicitly. A resource still used in code is different from one ready for removal. Deprecated resources are retained without automatic writes when the sync planner requires manual review.

An overdue deprecation can become drift. Removing its code use can make a retained Figma resource a removal candidate; Elf does not silently delete it.

Keep these decisions version-controlled with the project and review them during design-system maintenance.
